The end of Summer and the beginning of Fall is fast approaching. But we still have another month of Car Shows and Cruise In's ahead. This month's Cruise List of at least nine different Shows starts after Labor Day Weekend with The Fall Blues Show & Shine in Yachats, Tangent Harvest Festival in Tangent  and the Florence Rods & Rhodies Invitational in Florence the first weekend. Then Fifties in the Fall in Lebanon,  Cruise the Coos in Coos Bay and Deuce Day Rod Run in Medford the following weekend  and ending with the Heritage Car Show in Independence,  Pig Turd Alley in Mcleay, and the Chicken Run in Jordan to finish off the month. Plus we still will have the weekly Cruise In's at Shedd and Valentinos, I'm not sure about Beaches, Stroh's, or The Blue Moon.

Again, this has been a very full month for our members starting off with the Toledo Days Car Show. Abbe and I went  over to it after leaving nice Sunny Yachats and by the time we got there it was cold and cloudy plus we couldn't get in the Show because we couldn't find out how to get to the bottom of the street, so parked the Buick up at the Elks Lodge and walked on down.  We ran into Patti Olson, Blaine Blood , Mark  O'Donnell and some other members but never saw Linda Johnson. There was a lot of really nice Rides there plus all sorts of antiques, art and just about everything else. It has become a really great Show, with a lot to do and we as a club should try to go there next year. The Club Participation Trophy may be a problem though, the Rollin' Oldies  had something like 26 and still lost. On the 7th some members went to Coburg while others of us headed over to Philomath to Wild Bill Holderman's 2nd Annual Cruise In and Barbeque. Bunny won an award with his Roadster at Coburg, then a group of them came over to Philomath for some BBQ pit pig and to check out the rides at Bill's.  Bill's was again like last year - a real fun time and he and his group do a really nice job. Both the Mid Valley Cruise In at the 1st Assembly of God parking lot in Albany and the 19th Annual Carousal Car Show in Salem the following Sat… Six of us went to  Salem and out of the six, Roger Phillips and his '57 Chevy Sedan, Blaine Blood and his '23 Ford Roadster,  Bunny Youngblood and his '32 Ford Roadster plus Steve Vogler with his '34 Chevy Roadster all brought home trophies. It was extremely hot that day, even on the grass and we were constantly  looking for shade. We did take a break from the heat for lunch and headed for the Brick. It was still kind of warm in there and the walk up and back was brutal but I did see my Old Harley for sale on the walk. I don't know who went  or won at the Church but that pavement had to be REALLY REALLY HOT and they are a tougher group than I. I know that I could not have lasted more than an hour there. I didn't get any reports from anyone going to the All Buick Show, All Ford Picnic, Pin Up Dollies Car Show, Wapato Showdown, Kool Coastal Nights or the Hot Rod Picnic so again I have no idea on any of those.  A good number of us showed up at the NW Art of Cars Show at Timberlin Park. There was lots of Rides to check out plus they had a Art Festival with lots vendors. I didn't stay around for the Awards so I have no idea on who won what. I Headed down to hook up with Mike & Trudi and Frank & Bunny to go to  the Hot Rod Pile Up at Lindsay's Farm. They ask me if I knew how to get there and I said sure because  I had checked it out on the web earlier. Clumsy me- I guess I can't read a map that well. I did know that Bell Plain turned into Lindsay Dr., but thought that it was past Shedd and headed toward I-5. So at Linn West R, I knew I was wrong and turned into call Abbe and get the right directions. While I was on the phone I guess  Mike & Trudi, Bunny & Frank decided to go find themselves and leave me to find it on my own. So I turned around headed back up 99 to Bell Plain all the time looking for the rest of them, turn on Bell Plain drive on out to Lindsay's still looking for them, pull into the Farm still no Mike & Trudi or Bunny & Frank. So I pull up and get parked, Jim offers me a margarita made with their chain saw powered blender so I have one, give Trudi a call and find out that they had driven all the way back to Tangent looking for Lindsay Dr.. Luckily Dave & Lois Owen were on their way to Lindsay's, by the time they got there I was ready for my 2nd margarita. It was a good party and everyone had a Great Time. Just ask Bunny.  The following day, Sunday the 29th was our 18th Annual Car Club Picnic & Poker Run. This year we had 26 Street Rods, Pick-Ups, Hot Rods, Customs, Classics and you name it plus 5 daily drivers go on a 60 plus mile drive from Albany to Jefferson to Scio to Mallard Creek Golf Course to Lacomb to Roaring River Fish Hatchery to Roaring River Park. It was a really fun time with a lot of the newer members and potential new members along with members we haven't seen in awhile. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect, more food than could be eaten and the Best of Friends. This year's winners were: Best Poker Hand, Gary Balogh; Worst Poker Hand, Ron Shinn; Door Prize, Kris Vogler and the 50/50 went also to Gary Balogh. After leaving the Park a group of us stopped off at  the Crabtree Tavern and met up with some of the other members that were there and did a little more bench racing. It was a really good day

Members are still working on and updating their rides. Ron Shinn added new rims to his '35 Chevy and is working on his Wagon, Tim Riley changed  the carburetor on his '53 Stude,   Steve Vogler fixed the carburetor on his '34 Chevy, Wes Edwards bought a real nice Champagne colored  '36 Chevy Coupe, Vann Beckner bought another Mopar, this one is a '65 Coronet with only 30,000 miles on it. Gary Balogh bought a Cord Convertible and has it in the paint shop already. Ted Martin put a new carburetor  on his '47 Chevy Convertible  and is real happy because he can now get scratch in second gear, plus I just picked up another motor and trans for my' 61 Unibody. I am sure that a lot of you are doing different things to your Rides. I am also sure that both  Ron Shinn, Mark  Marsh and some of you others have picked up awards this past month but I don't write everything down and have a real short memory on these things.

So without carrying on anymore, we'll close out this thing other than to say that if you are not registered for the Fall Blues Show & Shine we would still like to see you over there some time during the show.

Bill
